GOLDEN VALLEY – A man who reportedly set fire to a residential structure and fired shots at law enforcement authorities outside was shot and killed by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies in Golden Valley on Wednesday, March 4.
The Bullhead City Police Department (BHCPD) is conducting an independent investigation of the incident. It is standard procedure to have an outside agency investigate another agency’s officer-involved shooting.
BHCPD public information officer Emily Fromelt said deputies responded at about 8:25 a.m. to a report of a domestic violence, aggravated assault incident at a property in the 4500 block of Muscovite Road. She said an uncooperative male suspect barricaded himself inside a trailer and indicated he was armed.
Fromelt said preliminary investigation reveals that the 45-year-old ignited a fire inside the trailer and fired shots at deputies positioned outside.
“Four MCSO deputies returned gunfire, striking the suspect,” Fromelt said. “No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.”
Fromelt said the man whose name is initially withheld was deceased at the scene after he was pulled from the trailer, which was engulfed by flames extinguished by the Golden Valley Fire Department.
