One killed in fatal Havasu apartment fire

LAKE HAVASU CITY — At approximately 3:40 am on Sunday, March 1, 2026, an apartment fire was reported by bystanders in the 2300 block of McCulloch Boulevard North. The occupants of the apartment complex discovered smoke coming from one apartment. Bystanders attempted to access the apartment on fire and were unable to do so. The first arriving fire company reported a working fire with heavy smoke in one apartment unit. Five engine companies, two ambulances, and one battalion chief responded to the fire and gained control in 19 minutes. The one occupant of the apartment on fire was unable to evacuate due to fire conditions and was located in the apartment deceased, during the Fire Department’s initial search while extinguishing the fire.

LHCFD treated and transported one additional bystander to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. One LHCFD firefighter was also treated and transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Both the bystander and the firefighter transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center were in stable condition. LHCFD CERT responded with five team members to the fire to assist with firefighter rehab. Desert Hills Fire Department moved up to Lake Havasu City to assist with other 911 calls during the incident. At the time of the press release, the Red Cross was activated to assist with displaced residents of the apartment complex.

Fire investigators, along with law enforcement, remained on the scene conducting the investigation into the fatal fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is actively under investigation.
