Motorcycle, SUV crash fatal for one man

KINGMAN – A deadly collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV is under investigation in Kingman. Police Chief Rusty Cooper said a 26-year-old Kingman man was dead at the scene of the Feb. 12 incident just after 7:00 p.m. in the 3800 block of Stockton Hill Road.

The name of the deceased is withheld initially.

“Preliminary information indicates that several minutes prior to the collision, a Kingman Police officer observed the motorcycle traveling northbound on Stockton Hill Road in the 1900 block at an extremely high rate of speed,” Cooper said. “The officer caught up to the motorcycle near the 3100 block and activated emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.”

Cooper said the operator of the Suzuki looked back at the officer, but did not yield and continued northbound at a high rate of speed. He said the officer did not continue the pursuit, in accordance with department public safety policy.

“Shortly thereafter, officers responded to the collision scene … and confirmed that the deceased motorcyclist was the same individual who had failed to yield to the attempted traffic stop,” Cooper said.

The Department of Public Safety is conducting an independent accident investigation due to the Kingman Police Department involvement in the initial enforcement action.
