LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Cancer Care Resource nonprofit of Lake Havasu hosted their second annual fashion show fundraiser last week. The Silk and Spurs a Celebration of Style Spirit and Strength event took place on Wednesday November 19 at 6pm in the London Bridge Resort’s Convention Center.
Operating under the Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer charity, the nonprofit collects donations to assist cancer patients by collaborating with Havasu restaurants that help with their continuous crowdfunding. Cancer Care Resource also provides support groups like their Cancer Buddy team who befriends victims of the disease. Furthermore, their Ribbon of Hope and Breast Friends of Havasu group meet every first Wednesday of the month to help individuals impacted by the illness.
All decked out in western gear, a huge turnout of 322 attendees showed up that evening to support the new charity.
The exciting occasion was emceed by two of the nonprofit’s volunteers husband and wife Dallas and Kim Finch along with guest speaker and chairperson of the fashion show, Heidi Lyster. With heavy appetizers and beverages provided by the London Bridge Resort, guests enjoyed live and silent auctions, 50/50 raffle drawings. Entertainment for the fundraiser was given by DJ Danny Finch and 12 girl group Sizzle-N-Stomp who took to the stage and showcased their freestyle dancing arrangements.

Models enthusiastically displayed fashions by local clothing stores like Dillards, Hello Darlin’ Boutique, Bling, Finch House Boutique, Crown Jewels, and Denim and Diamonds. Additionally, dedicated volunteers of Cancer Care Resource received award plaques from the nonprofit’s Chairman Rose Marie Eaton.
Karol Marshman was honored for her compassionate time and efforts along with Renee Hudson. Traveling to Rugged Headquarters for the 8th annual Pink Radio Fundraiser, Hudson sold out of the radios in an effort to raise funds for early breast cancer detection through Cancer Care Resource.
Within just thirteen minutes, $31,813.78 was raised along with an additional $3000.00 from outside donations for the Beyond Mammogram program. Since then, Hudson has raised $ 309,813.78 to assist with early detections and beyond. Michael Alan Furnishing also received an award plaque for their free onsite mammogram screenings. Volunteer of Cancer Care Resource Evie Cistaro says the charity’s continuous successful support is all owed to the city.
“If it wasn’t for Havasu, we would not be able to do what we do. It was great how everyone came together to make this event happen and the camaraderie among everyone who participated was just incredible,” Cistaro said.
In the end, Cancer Care Resource raised $55,531.00 which will ensure that the free mammogram screenings will continue and increase early prevention rates. To learn more about Cancer Care Resource visit https://cancercareresource.com.
