Bullhead business bandit busted

BULLHEAD CITY – Tips from the public are credited for the arrest of a suspected Bullhead City business bandit. Gary Halstead, 48, Golden Valley, was taken into custody during a September 13 traffic stop in the 2100 block of Highway 95.

Halstead was transported to the police department for questioning before he was charged with multiple counts of burglary and criminal damage.

Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer Emily Fromelt said Halstead was allegedly involved in “smash and grab” break-ins at 10 different commercial enterprises that occurred within five days of each other from September 5 through 10. She said victim businesses are located on Lakeside Drive and Hancock Road, and up off the Bullhead Parkway.

“Investigators determined that the same suspect, vehicle, method of entry and time frame were consistent in the incidents,” Fromelt said. She said cash bags taken from three of the businesses contained nearly $10,000 and that cigarettes were also stolen.

“Police believe other individuals are also involved,” Fromelt said. “The investigation is ongoing.”

Fromelt said the police department thanks the Mohave Silent Witness program for offering reward money that generated helpful information from the public.
