MC Judge Rick Lambert announces retirement

Cal Breskovic 301-523-0969

MOHAVE COUNTY — Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert will not seek re-election. Lambert has announced he’ll serve out his current term and retire from the bench at the end of December in 2026.

Presiding Judge Steve Moss has said that the county will soon begin soliciting applications for two new Court Commission positions and another Superior Court Division being established over the next year. Lambert said he wants his exit date known so area lawyers be aware that his spot will be open as well.

“I just wanted to make sure that if there are any aspiring attorneys out there that are really seriously considering seeking a seat on the bench, that they’ll have plenty of time,” Judge Lambert said. He said those who run for his spot should consult family and friends before jumping into the fray, and he says prospective judicial candidates must gather nominating petition signatures and perform other associated tasks.

Lambert spent the first month of his career in the Mohave County Legal Defender’s Office before switching over to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office. He spent the next six plus years as a prosecutor before succeeding the late Larry Imus as Justice of the Peace in 2007.

Lambert’s judicial career will span 20 years by his retirement. He expects to leave the legal community to engage in life.

“I think I’m going to cut the cord and go explore lots of things and travel, etc…,” Lambert said. “I don’t think that I’ll have any problems keeping busy. I have plenty of interests and I’m still curious about a lot of things that I’ll have a lot of opportunity to pursue.”
