Plan for daytime lane restrictions on I-40 near Arizona-California state line Jan. 13 through March 27

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Interstate 40 near the Arizona-California state line to expect daytime lane restrictions on a 3-mile segment of the interstate beginning Monday, Jan. 13, through the end of March.

The following restrictions will be in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays:

  • East- and westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between the Arizona-California state line and Needle Mountain Road (mileposts 0 to 3).
  • A 16-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.

The restrictions are needed as paving operations get underway. This is the second of two I-40 paving projects near the California state line that ADOT has initiated. Work on the first paving project, between mileposts 3-8, is still underway.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.
