LAKE HAVASU CITY – It’s not an official new year in Lake Havasu until residents take a dive into the lake for the annual Polar Bear Day. This year’s Polar Bear Day took place on Saturday, January 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at London Bridge Beach.
Sponsored by The Havasu Boat and Ski Club, this was the 52nd Lake Havasu Polar Bear Day. On the island side of the channel, participants gathered to take the polar plunge.
Scheduled groups dove into the waters beginning at noon, and at 1 p.m., people were allowed to swim into the chilly lake. Entry fees for all swimmers was $5 per person and a Polar Patch for those brave enough to jump right in, the blue and yellow patch was provided to those who put any part of their bodies into Lake Havasu.
A huge pot of soup was provided for partakers, and as always, the yearly event was free to the public.
