KINGMAN – A prison sentence is mandated in a plea agreement entered for a Golden Valley man who allegedly shot another man for calling him out as a convicted sex offender. Larry Meyer, 42, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for wounding another man on Sept. 5 at a residence at 2532 South Naco Road in Golden Valley.

Attempted second-degree murder. aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons and other charges are dismissed in the plea proposal attorneys unveiled at a Dec. 23 hearing at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman.

Deputy County Attorney Leah Nelson said Meyer shot the victim twice in the back after he became upset that the man called him a sex offender.

“I shot him, but it wasn’t in the back,” Meyer retorted, questioning the detail. “I don’t know how they keep coming up with `in the back.'”

Nelson told the Court that the surviving victim required surgery after he was flown to a hospital in Las Vegas.

Meyer did not hesitate a response when asked if he was on probation or released for any other offense when he shot the victim.

“I was on the run from parole, yes,” Meyer said. He said he understood he faced possible parole violation consequences in California for the sex offense conviction that was not detailed during the proceeding.

Whatever consequences Meyer faces for blatantly conceding the California parole violation, terms of his Mohave County plea deal require imposition of an eight-year prison term by Judge Billy Sipe at a Jan. 23 sentencing hearing.
