The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the crash occurred after 9:06 a.m. when a 2010 Nissan sedan traveling in the wrong direction eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 struck a 2015 Honda sedan.

DPS said the driver of the wrong way vehicle, 82-year-old Harold Wayne Wickham, and his passenger Ella Wickham, 90, both of Laughlin, Nevada were dead at the scene of the crash. Dead at the scene of the collision in the Honda were the driver, Tsun Tong Chan, 57, and passengers Wai Kam Ngai, 54, and Ching Kwong Chan, 21, all of New York, NY.

Following a full closure to westbound traffic, one of the westbound lanes was opened just before noon.  DPS has provided no additional details and the accident remains under investigation.
