October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Havasu Community Health Foundation (HCHF) will be celebrating with their 25th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.
In the U.S., this yearly event has also been referred to as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). NBCAM was created in 1985 in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division with Imperial Chemical Industries.
They are now affiliated with AstraZeneca who distributes many anti-breast cancer medications. The goal of NBCAM has always been to support mammography as the most powerful precaution in the battle against breast cancer.
The Havasu Health Foundation’s is a charitable organization full of compassionate people committed to promoting the well-being of Lake Havasu. HCHF provides support for breast cancer throughout the year with their Bosom Buddies of Havasu program.
This is a support group for patients and health care workers who have been touched by breast cancer in their lives. Bosom Buddies of Havasu meet the first Wednesday of every month at 4pm at the Havasu Community Health Foundation located at 2126 McCulloch Boulevard N in Suite 5 in Lake Havasu City.
According to the American Cancer Society, “In the U.S. in 2022, an estimated 287 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women.”
HCHF offers affordable labs and screenings for the uninsured, have high deductibles, or lack coverage through insurance. On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Havasu community will have a rally at 7:30 a.m. at London Bridge Beach.
The walk will begin at 8 a.m. Adult registration is $25 and students can participate for $20. T-shirts are $15.
Admission is free for all breast cancer survivors.
