Woman assaulted while holding infant

MOHAVE VALLEY – A Mohave Valley man was arrested Sunday after he assaulted a woman while holding her against her will, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded at 8:15 a.m. to the domestic violence incident at a home in the 2400 block of Palo Verde Ct.

Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies contacted the victim outside who indicated that the suspect, Nathan Lee Andrews, 34, was inside with her infant. Andrews was taken into custody when deputies approached the front door of the residence.

“The victim alleged Andrews assaulted her by punching her in the head, slapping her in the mouth, and trying to force sexual intercourse. When the victim refused and said she was calling the police, Andrews grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill the victim and the infant,” Mortensen said. “At one point during the incident, the victim was holding the infant and Andrews struck the victim, while also making contact with the infant.”

Mortensen said the victim’s statements were confirmed by another child in the home. She said the woman’s injuries were also consistent with her allegations.

Andrews was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Center for aggravated assault, kidnapping and other charges. Mortensen said the investigation revealed that Andrews had been drinking since Saturday night.
