Woke

Dear Editor,

If you are like me we hear this word “Woke” every day, either on the news or in discussion. The thin is, I did not know the actual meaning of the word and I am quite sure many others are in the same boat. Here is the actual definition of the “Woke movement and when it began.

The ”Woke” movement began in the African American community and the acceptance of Black liberation theology, another name for Marxism. The movement has expanded into other perceived social justice areas. In brief, “Woke is the term used to explain an awakening to issues of race, gender and sexual injustice. It sounds like it possibly replace Black Lives Matter (BLM)?

I am quite sure that many people who use the expression, especially young individuals have no idea of the true meaning and where it originated. Ask your children and grandchildren, maybe your legislators also, as I am sure they, many times just repeat and follow the crowd.
