On Tuesday, March 26, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Volunteer Posse and Boating Safety Officer Award Banquet.
At this event, they honored and celebrated the wonderful individuals that make the volunteer force, the folks who give their time and commitment out of the goodness of their hearts. This year a few individuals were honored for their dedication to the Volunteer Posse and Boating Safety Division. Deputy Haun, Deputy Coughlin, Erdean Johnson, Larry Kersich, Kurt Duncan, Doug Rich, and Sergeant Cox were each recognized.
Erdean Johnson was presented with the Posse Member of the Year award for his dedication to both volunteer programs. Erdean Johnson was presented with the Posse Member of the Year award for his dedication to both our volunteer programs. Erdean had a total of 644 posse hours and 314 BSO hours this year, while also volunteering for other agencies in his community. Erdean recently took over as volunteer fleet manager and made tremendous strides in this area.
Larry Kersich was presented with Boating Safety Officer of the Year award for devoting many hours to patrolling the waterways. Although Kersich lives in Kingman, he frequently travels to Lake Havasu to work special events and assigned shifts. Kurt Duncan was presented with Posse Field Training Officer (FTO) of the Year award for going above and beyond for the Posse FTO program. Duncan also dedicates his time working as a dispatcher in the Communications Center. Doug Rich was presented with the Sheriff’s Leadership award for taking a leadership role for both programs. Rich stepped up and has made a huge impact in the efficiency of the volunteers. Neither the Posse nor the BSO would be the same without him.
Not photographed is Barbara Hunter and Ed Gillespie, who received special recognition for the time and service to the programs. Hunter recently took on the task of scheduling all special events, as well as working regularly scheduled patrols for both programs. Ed Gillespie now has over 21 years of service as a BSO and handles the day to day administration functions and scheduling for the division.
