VFW hosting several events in May

The VFW has two fund raising yard sales each year, the next taking place May 10 and 11, from 8:00 a.m. until Noon, to benefit Veterans Programs. The Fall Yard Sale helps to fund our contributions for the Boulder City, NV State VA Home residents’ Christmas Wish Lists. All of the residents give a list of 3 items they would like to have. Large or small, they try to fulfill their every wish each year. The money also goes toward the Community Christmas food boxes to make certain everyone in their community has a meal over the Christmas season.

For Sunday, May 12, the American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting a Mother’s Day Spaghetti Dinner, with centerpieces on each table to be raffled and a pamper basket for all tickets to have an opportunity to win. Proceeds from that evening will go to the American Legion Auxiliary Emergency Relief Fund which helps members across the nation in times of natural disaster.

Saturday, May 18, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary will help to coordinate vintage vehicles for Veterans to participate in the Meadview Chamber of Commerce “Boat the Lake” Festival and parade. It is a small town community event similar to days gone by with simple foods, lots of artisans and local crafts, watermelon, and a summertime parade. They have procured a 1937 Dodge for WWII Veterans to ride, a 1958 Pick up for Korea War Veterans, a 1960s parade Continental for Vietnam Veterans, and a 1971 Chevelle for Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans to participate in the parade.
