Vegas man charged in Topock lethal shooting

TOPOCK – A Las Vegas man faces prosecution for a 4th of July shooting death in the west Mohave  County community of Topock. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded on July 5 to a report that a subject had been shot at a home in the 5400 block of E. Nogales Dr. in Topock.

Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said arriving deputies detained the suspect identified as Quintin Vesga, 27, before locating the deceased victim, Dennis Morris, 67, Topock, within the home. Detectives were summoned to the scene.

“The investigation revealed that Vesga had been consuming illegal drugs and alcohol during the evening of the 4th,” Mortensen said. “Believing he was having a nightmare, Vesga obtained a firearm and shot himself in the hand. Vesga then began firing the weapon inside the residence, ultimately shooting the victim several times.”

Vesga was reportedly charged with second-degree murder before he was transported to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of his injuries. Investigation continues.
