Trial set for former deputy

Andrew Sundberg

KINGMAN – The many times continued trial of a former Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputy who admitted engaging in sexual activity with a teenager at a youth drinking party in Kingman has been set between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Attorneys told Judge Doug Camacho during a Thursday hearing that they are prepared for jury selection for the trial of Andrew Sundberg, 24, beginning Monday, Dec. 4.

“We are all set from the defense standpoint,” said Sundberg attorney Virginia Crews. She and prosecutor Jacob Cote agree that the trial should conclude within a few days.

Judge Camacho set a Nov. 3 deadline for attorneys to exchange lists of witnesses they intend to call before an eight-member jury and one alternate juror.

Sundberg faces potential prison time if convicted of sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor charges.

Kingman police began investigating on Aug. 31, 2021 following reports that Sundberg may have touched a 15-year-old girl after they had been drinking at a house party in June 2021. Police said Sundberg admitted involvement with the teenager.
