KINGMAN – A lesser-involved co-defendant in a Golden Valley homicide case entered a mandatory prison plea agreement Thursday, Dec. 19, three days after her boyfriend admitted stabbing with intent to kill at his change of plea hearing.
Adam Pearl, 25, pleaded guilty Dec. 16 to second degree murder in the Sept. 1 death of Brandin McAlister, 32. The Pearl plea mandates imposition of a 25-year prison term at a Jan. 7 sentencing hearing.
Chyanne Teeples, 22, Kingman, appeared before Judge Billy Sipe for a Dec. 19 settlement conference. Sipe engaged in a lengthy legal analysis and discourse with the defendant indicating she’d likely face the general vicinity of 36 years in prison if convicted at trial of multiple pending felonies.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jeff Haws indicated he had withdrawn a plea offer providing Teeples a chance of probation with an assurance of no more than seven years if the Court ordered prison. That precipitated more than two hours of activity during which attorneys negotiated and achieved a plea agreement that was processed by the county attorney’s office and provided the Court.
Teeples pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery in a deal requiring Judge Sipe to order a five-year prison term, followed by seven years’ probation.
Authorities, through press releases and court hearings, have said that McAlister died after his lung was punctured when stabbed in the side when an argument over a generator escalated into a fight with Pearl. Pearl and Teeples took the victims’ keys, wallet and cellphone, and the cellphones of two others who were present, before fleeing on a stolen motorcycle.
They were arrested the next day in Kingman.
