KINGMAN – Jury selection begins Monday for the trial of a former Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy charged for alleged sexual involvement with a teenager at a youth drinking party in Kingman. Judge Doug Camacho has asked that 70   prospective jurors be summoned to the Law and Justice Center in Kingman for a trial that is expected to conclude Wednesday.

Andrew Sundberg, 24, is charged with sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor. The former deputy was subsequently fired after he was placed on administrative leave in Aug., 2021 when the sheriff’s office asked the Kingman police department to conduct an independent probe of allegations involving Sundberg and a 15-year-old girl.

“The investigation revealed that the incident occurred at a home in the 3000 block of Van Marter Ct. during a party held on June 30,” said police spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki. “Investigators learned that both Sundberg and the victim had consumed alcohol and were intoxicated.”

Sochocki said Sundberg made some incriminating admissions when interviewed by detectives. He faces possible prison time if convicted.

Sundberg began his sheriff’s office career as a detention office in 2018 before becoming a deputy two years later. He will be represented at trial by defense attorney Virginia Crews.
