KINGMAN, Ariz. – One of three people charged in a Lake Havasu City drug bust rejected a proposed plea agreement that was detailed during a June 12 hearing in Kingman.
Zachary Stuart, 32, faced probation to no more than 3.5 years in prison under terms of the deal, but could get more than 33 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections if convicted at trial. The Huntington Beach, California resident didn’t hesitate when quickly choosing trial over plea deal.
“Still going to trial,” Stuart told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle.
A Lake Havasu City Police Department report indicated that Stuart traveled with Zachary Davis, 34, and Davis’ girlfriend Savannah Ketchersid, 34, both of Lake Havasu, to Santa Ana, California to purchase drugs. More than 55 grams of fentanyl were seized following their return to Arizona in March.
Deemed the least culpable of the trio, Ketchersid was placed on probation and released from custody on May 20.
Judge Carlisle affirmed an Aug. 24 jury trial start for Stuart. Davis also awaits trial.
