Standoff ends in fatal shooting

KINGMAN – The Lake Havasu City police department will investigate a shooting involving Mohave County Sheriff’s office (MCSO) personnel and a civilian who was killed in north Kingman. Independent investigation by outside agencies is standard procedure in Officer Involved Shootings (OIS).

Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said a report of a possibly suicidal male drew sheriff’s office response to a residence in the 4200 block of Irving St. at 10:42 p.m. Saturday, October 10.

Neighbors reported gunfire to MCSO dispatch as officers were enroute.

“Victim statements claimed that a male subject shot at them, but they were able to get away uninjured,” Mortensen said. “Upon arrival, the male subject was observed outside the residence, and the male subject then fired a weapon at deputies. “

SWAT personnel arrived and took over the incident.

“During SWAT operations, gunfire was exchanged between SWAT members and the male subject. The male subject was later located deceased inside the home,” Mortensen said.

The subject’s name is initially withheld. Officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under review, standard procedure in OIS incidents.
