LAKE HAVASU CITY – Did you know that your supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP) benefits can be used at Lake Havasu’s Farmer’s Market? The Lake Havasu Farmer’s Market is a nonprofit by way of Havasu Together.
March of this year is when the nonprofit began accepting SNAP payments at our local farmer’s market. The choice worked out well since in the previous month, the farmer’s market started accepting the Double Up Food Bucks program.
This program allows SNAP card holders to receive extra fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, when one dollar is spent on an eligible food product, SNAP Quest/Electronic Benefits Transfer, also known as an EBT card, is where customers can receive a dollar on fruits and vegetables grown in the state of Arizona.
With this option, a person could use their Double Up Food Bucks for up to $20 a day.
The Lake Havasu Farmer’s Market is on every second and fourth Saturday of the month. The next upcoming one will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon at The KAWS. It has been a goal for Havasu Together for quite some time to provide these options to the community.
By doing so, the market is giving access to healthier food selections through SNAP. It also reinforces economic benefits, as well as support for our vendors, and local farmers.
