KINGMAN, Ariz. – Mohave County Animal Shelter is joining the fun at this year’s Andy Devine Days Parade—and some very special passengers will be along for the ride!
On Saturday, September 19, eight adoptable shelter dogs will take to historic Route 66 aboard the MCAS float, dressed in their patriotic best and representing the many homeless pets throughout Mohave County still waiting for families of their own.
This year’s message is simple: Freedom Starts With a Home.
But the fun doesn’t end when the parade does. Following the parade, MCAS staff, volunteers and adoptable dogs will be at Locomotive Park, giving the community a chance to meet some of the shelter’s available pets and perhaps find a new best friend.
“Events like this give people an opportunity to meet our dogs outside of the shelter and see the personalities that sometimes don’t shine through in a kennel,” said Nicole Mangiameli, Animal Shelter Operations Manager. “They get to be dogs—meeting people, enjoying the community and hopefully catching the eye of the person they’ve been waiting for.”
MCAS is also encouraging residents who may not be ready to adopt to consider other ways of helping. Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Each provides another pathway home for animals in need.
Come cheer on the MCAS dogs during the Andy Devine Days Parade, then stop by Locomotive Park afterward to meet the four-legged stars in person.
