Second-degree murder charged in fatal White Hills shooting

WHITE HILLS – One man is dead and another is in custody following a Monday shooting in a remote area of north Mohave County. Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Mohave County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded at 2:59 p.m. Monday to a property about 12 miles north of the community of White Hills.

“The suspect of the shooting was reportedly still on scene,” Mortensen said. She said Richard Hansen, 57, was taken into custody immediately.

Mortensen said the victim, Cristopher Jetton, 52, was located in a trailer on the property with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding detectives reportedly learned that Hansen, Jetton and another person have lived on the property for the past five years. Mortensen said it was learned that the men had argued about a visitor Jetton believed was trying to steal from them.

Mortensen said Jetton allegedly punched Hansen during the encounter.

“Hansen went into his trailer and grabbed a hand gun,” she said. “The argument continued, at which time Hansen shot Jetton.”

Hansen was transported to Kingman and booked into the Adult Detention Facility for second-degree murder.
