Schedule finalized for Bighorn soccer season

MOHAVE COUNTY – The wait is almost over for the inaugural season of Mohave Community College Men’s Soccer! The first official schedule for Mohave Community College Men’s Soccer is now finalized, and Bighorn fans can mark their calendars for gamedays.

Men’s Head Coach Camilo Valencia says the inaugural season will be a learning experience for the entire MCC Athletics Department and that the tools for success are in place.

“We are playing a very competitive schedule starting in preseason that will get us ready for our ACCAC play,” said Athletic Director and Men’s Head Coach Camilo Valencia. “This first season will be a learning experience for all of us; administration, coaches, players and fans. We will all learn what it really means to play and witness college soccer and why it takes all of us to work together in order to become successful.”

Valencia says the inaugural schedule, starting with preseason matchups, is one that will prepare the team for the challenges ahead, particularly the stiff competition within Division 1 of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC).

“Having Utah Tech in our schedule will help us grow as a team and will show our guys what it takes to play at the NCAA Division 1 level,” Valencia said. “Similar to that, playing against Ottawa University Arizona will test our group and also expose us to strong competition. In the non-conference part of our schedule, we are playing teams from very competitive regions like Region 9 and Region 18. We will learn a lot about our character before we start our conference play.”

Luckily for Bighorn fans, they’ll have the chance to see the men’s team take the pitch as early as Wednesday, Aug. 7, when Mohave Community College hosts Rio FC at Rotary Park in preseason action.

“Our first preseason game will be exciting because we are playing against our local club, Rio FC,” Valencia said. “Coach Matt Camacho has been a big supporter of our program from day one, being able to see them up close will also allow our staff to continue to evaluate the local talent. Our community should be excited and we want this to be a big soccer party at Rotary Park!”

Admittance to this season’s games is free for all spectators and Bighorn fans. Valencia says that means there’s no excuse to not have the bleachers packed for each and every home game at Rotary Park.

“We know everyone is excited for this fall and for our first season,” Valencia said. “We need fans to pack our home games to create a real home field advantage. We will play tough home games and we need the support. We all need to be in this together; we are all Bighorns.”
