Dear Editor,
Ms. J.M. I see you now use Pope Francis as a talking point on immigrants. The one word you forgot was “illegal”. No matter how many illegal immigrants the United States take in it will not solve problems in their home countries that they need to correct with their government. Very unlikely they qualify for asylum in the United States.
Most will not assimilate in to our American culture and the first thing they do is break our immigration laws. I would like to hear you explain why illegal immigrants should be allowed to cross our borders unchecked to the families who have lost loved ones to violent illegal immigrant crimes!
In your last column, Ms. J.M., you mentioned a Veteran saying he was losing his benefits because of the recent cuts to the Veterans Administration budget. These cuts are only to stop fraud and waste not benefits to Veterans that have earned them! Veterans I know have not complained about losing benefits.
Mr. Walter you did not mention if you are retired and on a fixed income or are still working? You blame the current Administration for the cost of living when you should look back to the previous Administrations blunders and over-spending. Mr. Gillette’s column on tariffs was well written. By the way Mr. Gillette is one of our two state representatives serving our district in the Arizona state legislature.
How do you know how hard he worked in his lifetime? I’m 70 years old, retired, and on a fixed income after working blue-collar jobs all my life. Be patient as tariffs will work for all of us! Our President has been the only President to have the courage to level the playing field with all our trading partners friend or foe. There are many things you can do to earn money in the meantime.
We sure don’t need government price controls which were enacted in the mid-1970’s which turned out to be a disaster! Instant gratification, Mr. Walter, is only temporary and will not solve economic issues.
