LAKE HAVASU CITY – Paramedic William Bill Weber was awarded the American Ambulance Association Star of Life at the Oct. 24 Lake Havasu City Council meeting. Last November, Weber noticed an unusual light coming from the Desert Hills community, and acted quickly as bystanders advised that there were people still inside a burning structure there.
Weber evacuated four people, saving their lives. He is only one of three of the River Medical team to obtain this award. Lake Havasu City Mayor Sheehy also presented a proclamation to Weber for William Weber Day to be celebrated in Lake Havasu on October 24.
City Manager Jess Knudson announced the retirement of Detention Officer Paul Ledger at the end of October and the Arizona Game and Fish Department helped Havasu’s Parks and Recreations with paddle safety classes. More safety classes will be added in the spring of next year.
Knudson shared Sheehy’s visit with Arizona Rural transportation summit. The meeting covered road conditions in the area. Lake Havasu hosted as Equity versus Equality town hall meeting with community leaders where healthcare for the state was discussed.
Vice Mayor David Lane presented a key to the city to Saint Michael’s United Methodist Church for their 50th anniversary. Mayor Sheehy attended the Veterans Stand Down on Saturday, October 21. The meeting was to promote the mental health and well-being of veterans.
Mayor Sheehy also presented a proclamation to Hospice of Havasu for their National Hospice and Care month.
Public hearings were then addressed by Mayor Sheehy. The board passed beer and wine liquor licenses for Star Cinemas and Majik Bistro and Milkshakes.
The board passed the motion appointing Randy Peterson as an alternate pilot member for the Lake Havasu City Airport Advisory. Peterson’s term will be from now until June 2026.
Project Manager Mike Wolf presented the board with the Site 6 Boat Ramp Replacement project with Kinney Construction.T he project will make it easier for boats to enter and exit. The project will also replace seawalls and add safety rails. The board approved this project in the amount of $1,174,042.
Council members passed a motion for amending zoning classification and district boundary for single family homes to Agriculture-Preservation for 1695 Deer Run Drive. A rezone request was requested for nine lots on McCulloch Blvd. Lake Havasu City General Plan. Their goal was to expand housing variety which included infill developments.
The sting of higher density uses was discussed that will be intended higher density for residential use for major roadway corridors to support an effective transportation system and less vehicle traffic on minor residential streets. The planned development rezone was passed by council members to rezone areas on Delta Dr. and McCulloch Blvd. S. Administrative Services Director Jill Olson of municipal government presented board members with updates on cost recovery rates.
The meeting was concluded with council members approving a sole source purchase of a recondition and rebuild of the Klampress Belt Filter for the North Regional Treatment Plant from Alfa Laval Inc. The board also approved price increases to the cooperative purchase agreements for wastewater equipment maintenance and repair services.
The board then approved new janitorial services needed with Advanced Janitorial Services for the Aquatic Center and new courthouse. The award is not to exceed $45,000.
