Golden Valley woman’s photo featured in 2023 wildlife photo contest calendar

PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Department has announced the winners of the 2023 wildlife photo contest.  The 12 winning photographs are included in the full-size 2024 wildlife calendar that is published in the November-December 2023 issue of Arizona Wildlife Views magazine.  Anne James’ photo of a ringtail was awarded best in show and is showcased on both the cover and in the calendar. James, of Payson, said, “I knew few entries would include a ringtail because of their nocturnal nature and that it wasn’t an ordinary image.” The 12 winning photographers are:  * Jim Burns, Scottsdale: Round-tailed ground squirrel kits *…

Officer involved in fatal shooting on leave during investigation

GOLDEN VALLEY – A man wanted for multiple felony offenses was killed in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) in Golden Valley. Authorities said Jason Henke, 42, Golden Valley, died of multiple gunshot wounds late Wednesday at a home in the 3600 block of N. Santa Maria Road. The Kingman Police Department is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting involving a Mohave County sheriff’s deputy. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki said the deputy developed information during an 11:15 p.m. traffic stop that Henke was at the N. Santa Maria Road residence. Sochocki said the deputy arrived on the property about 11:30 p.m….

Youth Exchange Chair speaks at Rotary

Speaking at Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s September 8 meeting was Machel Considine, Rotary District 5495 Youth Exchange InBound Chair. The Rotary In-Bound Youth Exchange Program has been active since 1975. Each year students, ages 15 to18.5  come to the United States from another country and live with Rotary host families while going to school.
