Outages affect members in Fort Mohave

FORT MOHAVE  – More than 1,600 Mohave Electric Cooperative members experienced two separate power outages Tuesday morning, Dec. 31.

MEC became aware of the first outage at 4:20 a.m. caused by a vehicle collision with a utility pole, causing an outage for 68 members. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Department reported the driver called in the accident and appeared to be uninjured.

MEC became aware of a second outage at 8:55 a.m. that affected over 1,600 members. Crews on site reported high winds as the cause.

Power to all but one of the members was restored at approximately 10:15 a.m. A meter pole damaged in the accident needs to be replaced prior to reconnecting the last member.

“I’m proud of how quickly our crews were on site and how hard they worked to restore power for our members,” said Rick Campos, chief operating officer at MEC. “We take a lot of pride in our ability to repair damage as quickly as possible.”

MEC recommends reporting outages 24/7 365 days a year using the MEC toll-free Outage Reporting Hotline (844) 632-2667 or through a member’s SmartHub account. For outage reporting to work best your member account information must be current.

An outage map is also available to members by visiting www.mohaveelectric.com/outage-center. The map is updated as power is restored.

Members who choose to leave their homes during an outage are encouraged to call MEC at (844) 632-2667 to request a callback through the automated outage system when power is restored.
