Ortiz arrested for axe attack, theft

Ramon Ortiz

A Kingman man was arrested over the weekend for an axe attack that injured no one, but damaged a vehicle. Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded Friday afternoon to a report of a disturbance at a home in the 2900 block of Spinner Bait Drive.

The reporting party advised that a subject later identified as Ramon Trevino Ortiz, 45, was muttering about “unknown things” when confronted about crossing through his property.

“The argument escalated and Ortiz produced an axe from his waistline and began swinging it around and lunged at the victim,” a news release said. “The victim and a friend then secured themselves inside a vehicle and Ortiz threw the axe.”

Mortensen said the axe struck the vehicle and shattered a light. She said Ortiz fled to a nearby residence where he stole a truck and drove away.

Mortensen said Ortiz was located the next day on his north Kingman property in the 8600 block of N. Avenida Obregon. The stolen truck was found nearby.

Ortiz complied with deputy directives and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Adult Detention facility for aggravated assault, theft, burglary and disorderly conduct.
