GOLDEN VALLEY — Another one of the 15 suspects rounded up in the “Operation Mohave Typewriter” case investigation has entered a plea agreement that will result in a multiple-year stay in the Arizona Department of Corrections.
David Baker, 52, Golden Valley, pleaded guilty to a trafficking in stolen property charge during an October 15 hearing before Mohave County Superior Court judge Derek Carlisle. Another trafficking count and prohibited weapons possession charges are being dismissed in the deal.
Deputy Mohave County attorney Jacob Cote said Baker sold a Thompson submachine gun to an undercover officer in Golden Valley on April 30. Cote said Baker knew the weapon was stolen and discounted the sales price to $16,000.
Judge Carlisle has discretion at a November 18 sentencing hearing with terms of the deal providing a punishment range 2 to 8.75 years in prison.
Baker and more than a dozen others were rounded up in early August following a 9-month multiple agency investigation targeting individuals trafficking drugs and firearms in various county communities. It was announced the operation resulted in seizure of 32.5 pounds of methamphetamine, an ounce of fentanyl powder, 28 weapons and 26 hand grenades.
