Officer-involved shooting under investigation

MOHAVE VALLEY – A civilian was shot and wounded during a weekend encounter with Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies in Mohave Valley. The male subject was transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded at 3:56 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 to conduct a welfare check in the 8200 block of Green Valley Road.

“A male subject confronted deputies, pointing a handgun in their direction, at which time a deputy fired at the subject,” Mortensen said. “The subject was struck and ultimately surrendered.”

The Lake Havasu City police department will conduct an independent investigation. It is standard protocol for officer involved shootings to be reviewed by an outside, independent law enforcement agency.

The names of the parties involved in the incident are withheld at this time.
