Nursing home outbreak discussed at supervisor’s meeting

BULLHEAD CITY – A COVID-19 hotspot in Bullhead City was delicately addressed during Tuesday’s Mohave County Board of Supervisors meeting. County officials declined to identify the long-term care facility, but Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley said at least ten positive coronavirus cases trace to the business.

“We can’t give out the name,” Supervisor Hildy Angius said. “These things have a way of getting out.”

A spokesperson from Joshua Springs Senior Living, on its own, informed The Standard that more than a dozen cases have been confirmed at the facility. Burley said public health officials are now involved with testing and tracing.

“The patients are all being tested in this unit. The staff will also be tested in this unit. The facility has made arrangements for that,” Burley said. “Our next steps are to meet and communicate with the leadership to talk about really what the next steps will be and that will be part of our investigative process.”

Burley said those steps could include increased testing of patients and staff. And she said increasing prevention education and proper use of protective equipment may also occur.

Supervisor Buster Johnson asked if authorities have learned how the virus was introduced at Joshua Springs. Burley said that had not been determined but that at least two staff members tested positive.
