New MCC Spirit store aims to help students, communities

MOHAVE COUNTY – There is a now a place where you can buy a shirt, mug or other Mohave Community College merchandise, and know your money will be used to help local students pay for college.

MCCSpirit.com launched on January 1, and all the proceeds generated will benefit the Mohave Community College Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money to help local students pay for college.

“We’re very happy to bring this to the community because it’s a triple win,” said MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein. “You can get some great items, while at the same time helping our local students, which in turn helps our communities through all the benefits that come from a more highly educated workforce.”

Typically, community college bookstores are operated by third parties, which then also sell college merchandise.  That’s what MCC did, until recently deciding to bring the merchandise sales under the umbrella of a college and foundation partnership, so that the proceeds would benefit students in Mohave County, said MCC Director of Communications James Jarman.

To cut costs, customers can select a time to pick up their purchases at the Mohave Community College campus library nearest them.  This means there will be no shipping costs for the consumer.

The MCC Foundation is a nonprofit organization and its sole purpose is to promote the growth, development and strength of MCC and its students, faculty, staff and programs.
