Museum thief takes plea

KINGMAN – Hannah Rangel has pleaded guilty to stealing money from the Lake Havasu Museum of History while employed as its director years ago. Rangel, 47, will be convicted of theft if the proposed plea agreement unveiled March 5 is accepted by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Megan McCoy next month.

A probable cause statement alleged that Rangel used a work-related credit card to pay a personal motorcycle bill of more than $1,000 on Oct. 17, 2020. The statement also alleged that Rangel used museum funds on Sept. 23, 2021 to pay a $2,862.50 bill to a mortuary in San Diego for her fiancé’s funeral.

Police further alleged that Rangel used a museum check on Sept. 29, 2021 to pay her $1,500 deposit for her Queen’s condominium in Lake Havasu.

Terms of the proposed probation-guaranteed case resolution encourage payment of restitution stipulated at $5,000.

Rangel would face up to 30 days in jail if she’s able to pay half of the restitution on or before the April 8 hearing Judge McCoy scheduled to decide if she’ll approve the deal and impose sentence. She would face up to a year in jail if she’s unable to come up with at least $2,500 restitution by April 8.
