Morgan sentenced for waterway death

A two-year prison term has been ordered for a California man convicted in a waterway fatality. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert imposed sentence Oct. 22 for Kevin Morgon, 47.

Morgon pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and aggravated assault for a June, 2016 accident on the Colorado River in Bullhead City. A boat operated by Morgon collided with a jet ski.

A 13-year-old girl on the personal watercraft was killed and her mother was seriously injured.

Defense attorney Michael Frame argued the victims were at fault because the jet ski was heading in the wrong direction on the wrong side of the river. The state did not concede that point and held Morgon responsible because he’d been drinking while operating his boat.
