Four-week pre-permit class builds confidence and safety for new drivers in Havasu
LAKE HAVASU CITY – Mohave College is pleased to help new drivers get ready for the road with its newly redesigned “Pathway to Safe Driving: Pre-Permit Driver Education” course at the Lake Havasu City Campus. The evening classes are especially helpful for families of teens who want structured, professional driver education before a new driver gets behind the wheel.
The four-week course provides 16 hours of structured classroom instruction that goes far beyond just passing the written test. Students learn Arizona driving laws, safe driving practices, traffic signs and signals, how to handle intersections, parking and freeway driving, how to respond to emergencies, and how to manage distractions and risk behind the wheel. The class also helps students prepare for both the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) permit test and future road skills tests.
“In this region, there are very few formal driver education options, so families are often left to figure it out on their own,” said Janice Berkenheger, Corporate Education Program Manager. “This course gives teens a strong foundation in safe driving before they ever sit in the driver’s seat, and it gives parents peace of mind knowing their new driver has had focused, expert-led instruction on the rules of the road.”
Sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 p.m., January 20, 22, 27 and 29, and February 3, 5, 10 and 12 at the Mohave College Lake Havasu Campus, Building 200, Room 203C (1977 Acoma Blvd. West). The investment for the course is $150, and Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) funds may be used by eligible families.
