MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave College Men’s Soccer team earned a 3-2 victory over Otero College Sept. 5 at Firebird Field.
Lazzar Ramos, forward, led the Bighorns with two goals in the first half. Ramos opened the scoring before finding the back of the net again in the 40th minute off an assist from Vicente Villalobos, midfielder, giving Mohave a 2-0 lead.
Otero College responded with a goal late in the first half, sending the teams into halftime with Mohave leading 2-1.
The Bighorns extended their lead in the 54th minute when Luigi Ankrom, forward, scored off an assist from Alan Salgado, forward, to make it 3-1. Otero answered in the 64th minute, but Mohave held on through the remainder of the match to secure the 3-2 victory.
Chase Radford, goalkeeper, played all 90 minutes for the Bighorns and recorded five saves. Mohave finished the match with 13 shots, including six on goal.
The victory also marked the 30th win for Coach Camilo Valencia as head coach of the Mohave College Men’s Soccer program.
“We are excited for the start of conference play. With 3 teams ranked in the top 20, the ACCAC continues to be the best conference in the country. The next 2 games will be the 4th and 5th consecutive matches against ranked opponents, which shows the strength of our schedule and the belief that we have in this group of players to get results home and on the road,” said Camilo Valencia, Men’s Soccer Head Coach.
The Bighorns will return to the road Saturday, Sept. 12, to take on Yavapai College at 4:30 p.m.
