Mighty Mud Mania attracts 300 to Firefighters Memorial Park in Kingman

KINGMAN — Some 300 hundred plus competitors participated in the Mighty Mud Mania at Firefighters Memorial Park.  The free event is sponsored by the City of Kingman and administered by the Park and Rec Department.  Coordinator Yvonne Cossio talks about who could participate in the 47th annual event sponsored free by the City of Kingman.

“It starts at the age of four and there is no cap as far as age limit goes, just the youngest competitor must be four years old.  We do seven different age divisions.”

This seven-obstacle course was laid out and constructed by city workers at which time they found several pieces of foot ware lost in previous years.  The four-year-olds were the first on the course which is like the old cereal commercial where the older kids wouldn’t try it until they saw that “Mikey likes it”.  A mom asked one of the four-year-old finishers how they liked it.  There as an affirmative answer so the day could proceed.

Cossio went on to say, “We average anywhere from four and 500 participants.  The first-place competitors receive a trophy and a memorabilia T-shirt and second place finishers receive a T-shirt and we give first and second place in both boys and girls in every division.”

The competitor clean up could take place on site as a retired “hazmat” shower was repurposed and hooked up to provide that service.  Kids found that to be almost as much fun as getting muddy in the first place.

The course was laid out in the grassy southeast corner of the park at Detroit Avenue and Fairgrounds.  After the day’s activities, crews fill in the mud pits that were dug in for the Mud Mania.  The expectation is that when a new course is laid out next year that at least some lost foot ware from 2025 will be discovered.
