MCC to launch Christian Sweeney Memorial Scholarship Fund

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave Community College Foundation has made it their responsibility to advocate and strengthen the advancements of their students through programs that will be beneficial for their academic studies. The foundation will be welcoming back their Around the World Series with their theme being Inspiration Around the World.

The foundation hopes to ease the financial challenges that MCC students could face while completing their education. The influence for the Inspiration Around the World theme came from former MCC student, Christian Michael Sweeney.

Sweeney graduated from both Lake Havasu High School and MCC in 2013. The remarkable young man then went on to study nuclear engineering at Purdue University.

Sweeney was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. A rare cancer that affects the nose and throat.

Few knew of his illness and Sweeney, not knowing how much longer he would be alive, decided to visit various different countries. Living his life to the fullest, he traveled to foreign countries like France, Ireland, and New Zealand just to name a few.

Sweeney passed away due to complications of the illness, he was 26. The MCC Foundation will be honoring Sweeney’s legacy at their Inspiration Around the World Brunch.

There will be a 50/50 drawing, silent auction, and international meals inspired by Sweeney’s many travels. The organization will be inviting sponsorship donations from valedictorians, salutatorians, dean’s list, and honor roll students.

The international brunch will be taking place on Saturday, September 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shugrues Bridgeview Room. Tickets are $65.00 per person and all proceeds will go to The Christian Sweeney Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The foundation wishes to raise $30,000 to launch funding for the scholarship. Reservations and donations to this event can be made by visiting donorperfect.net.
