MCC students attend Phi Theta Kappa conference in Orlando

Roxie Joslin, Robert Gale, Cassandra Huntley and Janice Tubbs, PTK advisor, attended the 2024 Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst event in Orlando, Florida.

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Phi Theta Kappa students went to Orlando, Florida, April 4-6 for the 2024 PTK Catalyst Conference. PTK Catalyst is Phi Theta Kappa’s premier annual event, bringing together members, advisors, and their supporters for professional development and celebration of the accomplishments of our community.

The event included immersive opportunities for personal and professional development, college transfer guidance from experts, speakers who inspire, election of leaders, and endless opportunities to network and learn from other members of the PTK community.

MCC students who attended are Robert Gale (PTK president), Cassandra Huntley, Roxie Joslin and Janice Tubbs, PTK advisor on the Kingman campus. They were able to learn about what other PTK chapters are doing in their communities and more.

“It was exciting to see so many members come together to collaborate, learn and celebrate chapters efforts. We learned about action projects, community building, connecting and building relationships with other PTK members and so much more,” Tubbs said.

Cassandra Huntley, Roxie Joslin, Robert Gale and Janice Tubbs, PTK Advisor. This is the first time multiple MCC students attended the 2024 Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst event in Orlando, Florida.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, Jasmine Garcia, student on the Lake Havasu campus, was a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society International Officer where she held the role of Vice President for Division IV. During the 2024 Catalyst, she was hosting sessions, introducing keynote speakers and presenting awards with other international officers.

“It was an amazing experience for me to be on stage in front of almost 3,000 PTK members and inspire fellow students of underrepresented populations including the LGBTQ+ community, Latinx community and the First-Gen community,” Garcia said. “My international officer term has strengthened my public speaking, networking, and overall leadership ability and I highly recommend running for the position to any PTK member, as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
