MCC nursing revitalizes program, sees national board exam pass rates hit 100%

MCC’s Nursing program has taken various efforts to revitalize and improve the program for the learning outcome of its students.

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College nursing program has taken the efforts to provide students with more educational resources to improve their learning outcomes and be better prepared in the field. The efforts taken have shown that all students who have taken their national board exams have passed. So far 60% of fall 2023 graduates have taken the exam. This significant achievement highlights the quality of MCC’s Nursing program and the dedication of its students and faculty.

“We are immensely proud of our graduates and faculty for achieving this milestone. The 100% NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) pass rate is a testament to the hard work, resilience and innovation that define MCC’s nursing program,” said Kerrie Hess, Director of Nursing Programs. “Our ongoing investments in curriculum development, active learning and simulation technology are designed to prepare our students for successful careers in nursing and to meet the evolving needs of our community and the healthcare system.”

The nursing department took extensive efforts to revitalize its program and recognized the need for innovation and improvement. Nursing faculty collaborated to redesign the curriculum and implement new assessment and evaluation guidelines. The nursing department focused on active learning strategies, instructional strategies, case studies and interactive learning platforms. These approaches offer students a more engaging and effective learning environment.

The College has invested in state-of-the-art adult and pediatric simulation manikins across all four campus locations to expand learning opportunities for nursing students. In fall 2023, the college added a high-fidelity birthing mom, a newborn child sim, as well as an infant simulator, offering students hands-on experience in maternity and infant care.

Mohave Community College remains committed to excellence in nursing education and to the success of its students, both in their academic pursuits and in their future professional endeavors. The accomplishments of the Fall 2023 nursing graduates highlight the positive impact of the college’s continuous efforts to enhance its program and support its students.
