Masters takes plea in child porn case

KINGMAN – A Kingman man has entered a mandatory prison plea agreement in a child pornography case. Dylan Masters, 33, pleaded guilty to two charges reduced to attempted sexual exploitation of a minor during a November 26 hearing at the Law and Justice Center in Kingman.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney James Gilmore told Judge Billy Sipe that a cyber tip involving the uploading of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) prompted investigation that traced to Masters. He said a search of Masters’ Southern Avenue home determined that the defendant possessed files and images of children under the age of 15 engaged in sexual activity or display.

Gilmore said Masters admitted viewing “teen porn,” but denied any illegal conduct. The prosecutor said one image related to the first conviction involved a girl under the age of 12, and the other conviction involves another girl under the age of 15.

While many CSAM cases commonly involve hundreds, if not thousands of illegal images, defense attorney Ross Carponell said Masters possessed only five. “I just want the Court to be aware of that,” Carponelli said.

Terms of the deal require Sipe to impose a five- to 15-year prison sentence at a December 22 hearing. The judge will also decide how many years Masters will be on probation following his prison release.
