Marshalls tight-lipped regarding opening date

KINGMAN – Kingman eagerly awaits the opening of a new Marshalls retail outlet. Many are aware it will occupy space formerly held by JC Penney, in the old Safeway Shopping plaza along Stockton Hill Road.

The Marshall’s corporate office, for whatever reason, does not wish to disclose specific information about the store opening. At least not yet.

Brett Borg, who manages the plaza property for a Mesa firm, indicated in April that renovation activity in the 20,000 sq. ft. building was intended to lead to an Oct. 1 opening. He provided a corporate contact who did not respond to media inquiry in Sept.

Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Becky Fawson last week said it was her understanding that the Kingman Marshalls would open “in November,” though she had neither a specific date, nor any particulars.

Sylvia Shaffer, the City’s Economic Development Project Manager who frequently works closely with companies locating in Kingman, had a little more information.

“As far as the opening date, it was confirmed for Nov. 21st at 8:00 a.m.,” Shaffer said. “That’ll be a good time and they’ll probably have a good grand opening event.”

The company is not nearly as forthcoming. Regional Marshalls contact Eric Shafer referred media inquiry within the corporation.

“We anticipate that the new Marshalls store in Kingman, AZ will open this fall,” Marketing Supervisor Catrina Boncaldo replied by email. She also passed over questions about the success of the Oct. 21-24 employee recruiting event conducted at the Powerhouse Visitor’s Center and referenced the company website when asked about the Marshalls inventory brand.

“We will add you to our medial list,” Boncaldo said. “We wouldn’t have anything else to add to your story and look forward to sharing more details with you I our grand opening press release when it is ready for distribution closer to the opening date.

Shaffer said store shelves don’t yet feature product.

“It’s not quite stocked yet,” Shaffer said. “They’re still working on the interior.”
