KINGMAN, Ariz. – A Bullhead City teenager who threatened an older teen with a machete has entered a probation-guaranteed plea agreement to resolve his criminal case. Jayden Mendez, 16, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct involving a weapon during a July 13 hearing in Kingman.
An aggravated assault charge is dismissed in the deal.
The Bullhead City Police Department reported that Mendez used the weapon during a May 1 assault at the skate park at Rotary Park on Balboa Drive. A police report indicated that Mendez placed the edged portion of a machete-type knife against the back of the victim’s neck, resulting in a superficial abrasion.
Legal Defender Ron Gilleo said Mendez denied the neck placement and contact allegation though he conceded displaying the weapon and that “it freaked out everyone who was there.”
Mendez will be spared a prison term if he completes probation successfully. He still faces up to one year in possible county jail time when sentenced on Aug. 19 by Judge Billy Sipe.
