Logo chosen for Mohave College

MOHAVE COUNTY – The community has spoken! By an overwhelming 65 percent to 35 percent, students, community members and College employees selected a new institutional logo to represent Mohave College, as it rebrands from Mohave Community College.

The winning design features a southwestern-style large ‘M’ embedded with the symbol of a cactus. The new name and logo reflect the College’s continued expansion and addition of programs and services that extend beyond what many view as a typical brand of “community college.”

Following a community-wide survey, meetings and focus groups, College leadership recommended, and board members officially approved, the new logo as the primary symbol of the institution. The Office of College Communications is currently working with facilities and employees across all campuses and learning centers to identify and replace old logos. The transition to the new Mohave College logo will continue through the summer.

An official unveiling ceremony will take place in August, at which time the College will be fully branded and referred to as Mohave College. While the legal name will remain the Mohave County Community College District, the front-facing name change from Mohave Community College to Mohave College reflects the institution’s continued growth and evolution to better serve students and the community.

“This is very exciting, the bold ‘M’ helps the College move forward from the MCC brand, and the cactus is an historical and geographical symbol for the College,” said James Jarman, Executive Director of College Communications. “The cactus was first incorporated into the institution’s seal around 1979-1980, and since it is universally recognized as a symbol for a desert – and Mohave College is the only college we could find that actually shares a name with a desert – we think the new logo has the potential to be instantly recognizable across the country as Mohave College.”

The College mascot will remain the Bighorn and it is instrumental in the College Spirit logo, which is used primarily for athletics, student clubs and many community engagement events.  It is separate from the ‘M’ design, which is the institutional logo and serves as the official identity mark of the college to be widely used, especially in more formal and professional contexts when the mascot may be viewed as too informal.

Why the Change?

The College is expanding its educational offerings, including new four-year bachelor’s degree programs, advanced workforce training, and athletics, in addition to the high-quality academic programs and services it has traditionally provided. The rebranding effort highlights the College commitment to innovation, accessibility and student success. Read more about the MCC to Mohave College story at Mohave.edu/Rebranding
