Local permaculture event Invites the tri-state

GOLDEN VALLEY – Join the movement towards sustainable living at the Second Annual Mesquite Weekend in the tri-state area. Come for the speakers, vendors, native food lunch, seed exchange, hula hooping, children’s area, photography contest, and food trucks.

The tri-state area is invited to the Second Annual Mesquite Weekend, taking place in Golden Valley on Saturday, March 23 at the Fire Safety Training Station and Sunday, March 24 at Veteran’s Park.

This year’s speakers include Ethnobotanist Carrie Cannon talking about native plants, environmental specialist, water matriarch; permaculture designer Carmen Gonzales talking about water conservation, and Peggy Sue Sorensen of The Desert Kitchen talking about our native mesquites Saturday at the Fire Safety Training Center. The free seed exchange happens all day. Bring what you have. Take what you need. Vendors will be in attendance selling trees, plants, books, permaculture, zero waste, and apothecary items. Native food snacks will be available. A delicious lunch of purslane salad with nasturium flowers followed by a nopal lunch with queso fresco, avocado, refried beans, and warm tortillas will be available to ticket holders. All attendees can vote for their favorite submitted photo in the Audience’s Choice Award category.

A free hula hooping clinic is being offered Sunday at Veteran’s Park by Sophie of Amazing Flow Arts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The seed exchange and yard games will be available all day and children can make butterfly puddles from air clay. The winners of the Audience’s Choice Award and the Judge’s Award will be announced. The judges of the Judge’s Choice Award are Don’t Blink Photography, Philip Carnivale Photography, and Laird Nelson Photography.

Tickets range from free to $45. Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com/e/2nd-annual-mesquite-weekend-tickets-768195642847?aff=oddtdtcreator
