Local man arrested following erratic, hostile behaviors

KINGMAN – Kingman police report they don’t know why a local man engaged in bizarre behavior and endangered public safety personnel last Friday, August 1. Officers reportedly responded at 1:45 p.m. to a home in the 3300 block of Brenda Avenue where a subject called 9-1-1 approximately 40 times asking for help.

“Upon arrival at the residence, KPD officers attempted to contact the caller, but were told to leave and had profanities screamed at them,” said Deputy Kingman Police Chief Joel Freed. He said an officer driving on Central Street saw a vehicle that had been at the Brenda Avenue residence following his fully marked police car.

“The white 2017, 4-door sedan then attempted to ram the police vehicle before speeding off,” Freed said. A subsequent short police pursuit was terminated for public safety consideration due to traffic conditions.

Freed said officers located the same sedan at 3:00 p.m. after responding to a possible hit-and-run traffic accident in the area of Brenda Avenue and Central Street. The suspect identified as Ryan Fugate,  37, Kingman, reportedly screamed more profanities at officers who took him into custody following a brief struggle.

Fugate was booked into the Adult Detention Facility for aggravated assault, resisting arrest and unlawful flight. Freed said police don’t know if impairment played any role in the incident and he noted a family member indicated Fugate’s behavior had been erratic of late.
