LAKE HAVASU — There always seems to be a plethora of available preparations for students for the fast-approaching school year, but what about the educators? Owner of Our Shabby Shack Book and Exchange Denise Griess wants to support Lake Havasu teachers by giving them the needed books for the classroom.
Previously called the Original Book Exchange, the store is well known throughout the community for their ongoing events in support for the love of books and storytelling. On the weekends, the boutique hosts its famous story time with crafts for children and blind date with a book for consumers and employees is a weekly occurrence.
For the past two weeks, the shop has hosted their Teacher Blessing Program. A program where Shabby Shack gets community involvement to help teachers obtain as many books as they can for the school year. The store carries pre-owned and gently used books at reasonably low prices and many sponsors have already helped our local teachers in this journey of book purchases.
Local businesses and nonprofits have already been active sponsors in the cause such as Havasu Olive and Garlic, Mohave Mortgage, the Rotary Club, Women with Willpower, and many more. The bookstore is aiming to support all teachers of the community from public to private starting from our preschools all the way to the high school.
To finish off next week’s finale of the event, the book exchange shop is still in need of sponsors for more teachers who have yet to obtain an array of books for their curriculums. The Teacher Blessing program is set to continue from Monday July 14th through Thursday July 17th at Our Shabby Shack and Book Exchange. Anyone interested in being a sponsor or teachers wanting to get on the waiting list to receive books can call or text the store directly at 928-453-4043.
Because of limited school budgets and continuous costs of classroom tools escalating, the ongoing uncertainties in gaining supplies for students has become a burden with many educators. It is said to be that even with the availability of classroom budgets, instructors still wind up paying out of pocket for school supplies which is why Our Shabby Shack Book Exchange will continue to work diligently at make sure that our teachers receive the much-needed blessings.
