Local charged in five-person fatal

A Kingman man faces prosecution for the traffic accident that killed 5 bicyclists in southern Nevada last Thursday. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office says 45-year-old Jordan Barson was arrested in the Kingman area about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Associated Press reports the Clark County District Attorney’s office has charged Barson with a dozen felony offenses, alleging he was high on methamphetamine when the box truck he was driving struck a group of bicyclists on Highway 95, between Searchlight and Boulder City.

Barson told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel when his truck rolled into the back of the pack of cyclists. Five were dead at the scene and several others were injured, some of them hospitalized.

Barson waived extradition during a local court appearance about two hours following his arrest Wednesday morning. He’ll be returned to Nevada for trial.
